Compassionate Services
DiscoveryLiving
Discovery Living provides intellectual disabilities services for adults, and like most non-profit organizations, depends on the extraordinary goodwill of various individuals and community organizations. Heroes, really.
Our founding partner, the Knights of Columbus, has worked tirelessly to help ensure our sustainability through 40 years of on-going support. In addition to the Knights, we have been blessed by the generosity of our employees, individual donors, relatives and friends of people served, community foundations and local businesses.
The fact is, we simply could not provide the services we do without these people – people just like you.
Through their generous gifts, we have been able to provide a wide array of individualized supports to meet the needs of the individuals we serve. Home modifications, vehicle purchases and adaptations, and adaptive equipment are examples of routine expenses that are not covered by our funding sources.
Please consider the good you could do as a member of the community of donors that support the work of Discovery Living.

Discovery LivingServices
Under the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Medicaid Intellectually Disabled (ID) waiver, we provide Supported Community Living (SCL) services.
Discovery Living currently provides 24-hour residential support in over 30 locations across the Greater Cedar Rapids area.
Our goal is to assist members to “build” homes in pockets of the community where people served have access to resources that are meaningful to them. That may mean easy access to shopping, their place of work, city parks, and active social networking opportunities. Whatever it is that fulfills their hopes and objectives in the journey to independence, we aim to help them meet their aspirations by helping them identify a place to grow in their community.
Daily Support
24-hour daily supports in residential homes where 4-5 individuals live.
Social and Recreational Supports
Provided at our recreation center, individuals that receive our services can come to engage in creative activities and fully access community resources.
Adaptive Equipment
Equipment for communication, eating, bathing, and mobility.
Home Purchases and Modification
We own over 25 homes, which we modify and adapt with hard surface flooring, ramps, railings, grab bars, lifts, egress windows, and other needed adaptations.
Vehicle Purchases and Modifications
We own nearly 50 vehicles that we purchase and modify to ensure that individuals can fully access their community.
